DTE Coastal Processes and Extremes

Coastal DTC will focus on the development of specific DT components at the land-ocean interface addressing coastal erosion, flooding, and biodiversity.

Coastal DTC will focus on the development of specific DT components at the land-ocean interface. It will develop five use-cases addressing coastal erosion, flooding, and biodiversity since these are considered critical factors in coastal management because of their influence on ecological health, human well-being, economic value and the resilience of coastal areas.

Use-cases include:

  1. Coastal erosion and accretion;
  2. Coastal flooding due to sea-level rise;
  3. Compound flooding due to extreme events; plus
  4. Mangrove health and
  5. Sargassum invasion effects on biodiversity and nature-based solutions for coastal resilience.

It will feature sustained stakeholder engagement throughout the project and will devote special emphasis on AI/ML techniques during the R&D component.
